"North Creek mega project OD'd by APA"
Story reprinted from Chronicle April 17, 2008, Gordon Woodworth
The 480 acre project, $250-million Ski Bowl Village at Gore Mountain won Adirondack Park Agency approval last week, and developer Mac Crikelair told The Chronicle he hopes to break ground this year on the projects' first phase "We're very excited to have that long process over with," said Mr Crikelair He said his company, FrontStreet Mountain Development, has been in front of the APA for about two years.*
The project will line the North Creek Ski Bowl to Gore Mountain, and will included 131 townhomes, a private ski lodge, 18 single-family homes, a 120-room hotel, a 60-room lodge, a 30-room Inn and two 40-unit condo hotels, as well as restaurants, an equestrian center, a spa and a nine-hole par 3 golf course.
"We still have a number of items we need to organize" Mr. Crikelair said, "We need to comply with the APA permit, and we need other permits as well, most of which you can't apply for until you get APA approval."
He said those permits included the Johnsburg Planning Board and the Department of Environmental Conservation.
Johnsburg Town Supervisor Sterling Goodspeed said linking Gore Mountain and the Ski Bowl "has been a dream for several generations," and the Town has worked very hard to protect the town's infrastructure, protecting and enhancing the fire, water and sewer districts through negotiations with Front Street.
"It is a growth opportunity for Main Street businesses, and an opportunity of a lifetime for Johnsburg." Mr. Goodspeed said, adding it's an opportunity "we enter into with our guard up."
* Note: ACHR brokered the sale of the Ski Bowl to FrontStreet, and we're very pleased that they are moving forward for the town and the Adirondacks.
